Are You Out Of Control When You Drive- How To Manage Road Rage

Just as water flows down easier than up, so do we often find it easier to have a reaction of anger instead of patience or understanding. When things come up with a family member that are tough or at work do you tend to blame them or look at the person with compassion?

It's easier to be angry than to feel sympathy for someone who knows how to push our buttons. Still, do you like yourself when you are all reactive and upset? Who is the real you, the one who just blows up or the one who can control the temper?

When driving, uncontrolled anger can be deadly. It can result in both obnoxious and unsafe behavior including cutting off a person, excessive honking and obscene gestures. Other drivers then react to this and they can end up being also impatient, angry and wreckless.

When you see someone else that is going through road rage or a mini tantrum it is good to stay away and not feed them. Don't try to teach people a "lesson" or try to punish someone. Realize that they are stuck in their own unresolved issues and are just acting them out. Rudeness, aggression and violence are the result of hidden issues that often are not faced.

On the road it's good to not make eye contact with someone who is acting aggressively and to keep safety as your highest priority. If someone is tailgating just let them do it and don't try to retaliate or get into an ego battle.

It may not seem possible but through anger management techniques you can have an undisturbed state even when things seem to be bad externally. This doesn't always seem easy to do but when you even consider it , it is very liberating because it means you aren't just stuck in the usual patterns.

The beauty of anger management tools is that you can see that all the aspects of your life are improving. You don't just get calmer on the road, you'll also be calmer when your kids are egging you on or your boss is criticizing you or your mother-in-law is getting to you.

Sure you may slip a little or fall into reactions , but your intention to master yourself is the key. Often the roots and seeds are from our childhood and we have gotten stuck in old patterns. Remember these can be transcended and you can find true relief from past behaviors.
